Szabó Péter – Teaching exam-based writing skills

Of all the skills, writing is the one that teachers and learners seem most reluctant to focus on because it requires them to make special efforts. For many teachers teaching the ’skill of writing’ is setting a writing task, leaving the students to do it (usually as homework) then collecting it in and marking it. No wonder students usually struggle and feel at a loss when it comes to exam writing.

In this workshop we will discuss how students can learn to become better writers by being actively encouraged and helped to follow through a series of preparatory steps before the final text is produced. We will also look at ways of integrating a variety of 21st century learning technologies into our classroom practices that inspire creativity and bring new opportunities to teachers and students alike.
