Uwe Pohl – You can do it: how to engage language learners on and off(line)

Any language teacher with an interest in teaching communicatively will appreciate the need to create engaging, interactive classroom activities. As many of us have experienced, though, this becomes a real challenge when teaching online.

For example, the virtual classroom has a different social feel and dynamic. It also requires creative adaptations of familiar work modes, the development of new task types and the use of innovative digital tools. In this workshop we will explore interactive techniques, activities and tasks aimed at getting and maintaining student engagement, whether you teach face to face or online. There will also be space for those attending to contribute with their own experiences, questions, insights and ideas.

Uwe Pohl is an EFL teacher and teacher trainer at the Department of English Language Pedagogy (DELP) of Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. His current professional interests are intercultural learning, mentoring and trainer training. He has also been part of many in-service training projects in Hungary, Eastern Central Europe, the U.K., Africa and Asia.
